Northern Ireland launches data visualisation contest

Department of Finance encourages young people to do something fresh with datasets from NIOpenData portal. Northern Ireland's Department of Finance has established a contest for young people to use datasets in the Executive's open information portal to create an innovative visualization of this information. It's part of Northern Ireland's Open Data Strategy, aimed at embedding an 'open by default' culture in the public sector to boost efficiency, promote innovation and enhance the economy. Called the OpenDataNI Challenge, the competition involves creating new interpretations from the OpenDataNI portal using a assortment of digital fabrication techniques like 3D printing, laser cutting, milling, and electronic equipment. It's open to teams of around 12 students from all post-primary schools and further education colleges to design and make a striking and innovative interpretation from NI open information.
